Alexa Plisiewicz is a Clinical Research Coordinator I within the Biospecimen & Clinical Research Unit (BCRU). Her responsibilities entail enrolling and consenting subjects along with managing regulatory requirements and clinical data collection. The main projects Alexa is focused on are the Cole-Reagins Registry for Sinonasal Cancer (CORSICA), Cerebrovascular Biobanking for Genetic Research and Epilepsy Genetics Research Project (EGRP). She additionally is an active member of the Center’s culture initiatives and DEI related working groups.
Prior to joining D3b in June of 2021, Alexa obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Smeal College of Business Fundamentals certificate and graduated from the Penn State Schreyer Honors College. She was an undergraduate research assistant at Penn State in the Medina Lab and PRO Health Lab. Alexa completed her thesis with the PRO Health Lab on alcohol consequences among ethnic and racial minority first-year college students.
She is additionally a volunteer camp counselor for the American Academy of Dermatology’s Camp Discovery. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and learning new languages.
Alexa is driven to be a part of D3b as she committed to the acceleration of new therapies and treatments for pediatric diseases in hopes of living in a world where no child has to live an abbreviated life.
