Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN)

The D3b Center’s pioneering research project is the Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN), previously known as the Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC), a collaborative, multi-institutional research program dedicated to the study and treatment of childhood brain tumors. The D3b team is proud to function as the CBTN’s Operations Center under the leadership of Co-Executive Chairs Brian Rood, MD, of Children’s National Hospital along with Angela Waanders, MD, MPH, of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago; and Co-Scientific Chairs Michael Prados, MD of UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and Carl Koschmann, MD of Michigan Medicine C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Adam Resnick, PhD, Co-director of the D3b Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, serves as the Scientific Director for CBTN.

Children's Brain Tumor Network LogoThe CBTN supports the research of new prognostic biomarkers and therapies for children with pediatric brain tumors. This collaborative research effort is comprised of a network of dozens of top-tier pediatric research institutions across four continents and has enrolled thousands of childhood research subjects, collected more 60,000 tubes of specimens since its formation. These specimen collections are all highly annotated and are paired with longitudinal clinical data, genomic data, imaging data and histology data and are available for request by researchers across the world.

In September of 2018, the CBTN launched the Pediatric Brain Tumor Atlas (PBTA), one of the world’s largest pediatric brain tumor data sets available without embargo. Users can search PBTA files and associated meta data through the Gabriella Miller Kids First Data Resource Portal. Additionally, users can identify genomic and other types of files, then integrate them into a Cavatica workspace for further research of the raw genomic data. A summary of PBTA data and data visualizations are also available on PedcBioPortal.

Researchers can request access to the raw genomic data by completing and submitted the CBTN Data Access Request form.
