Biospecimen Research Coordinator
Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine
Ria Patel is a Biospecimen Research Coordinator responsible for managing and accessioning specimens collected for CBTN and liquid biopsy. She is also responsible for specimen related data entry for CBTN, liquid biopsy, and PNOC (Pacific Pediatric
Neuro-Oncology Consortium). Ria is also part of the NF1 (neurofibromatosis type 1) study.
Prior to joining CHOP in August of 2023, Ria conducted undergraduate research at USciences regarding the effectiveness of chemotherapeutics on triple negative breast cancer via modulation of GABA receptors. While at Drexel, her thesis project focused on positive allosteric modulation of glutamate transporters in physiological states
and neurological disorders, primarily in chronic pain, opioid-induced hyperalgesia, and opioid use disorder.
Ria completed a BS in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of the Sciences before earning a MS in Drug Discovery and Development from the Drexel University School of Medicine. She is committed to helping people and working at D3B allows her to do just that. Ria feels her job is just a piece of the big picture to accelerate the discovery of cures for children. She is grateful to be a part of something which will help children and their families.
